Expressing Myself: A New Chapter in Blogging and Vlogging
Hi there!
My name is Carl Khan, and this is my very first time creating an online blog.
For years, I’ve been aware of blogs but never really delved into them. When I think of blogging, my mind goes back to the TV show Ugly Betty, where Betty, the main character, starts a blog that leads to a series of funny and unexpected events—eventually earning her a blog award. There’s a scene in the show where Betty explains why she started her blog, and it really stuck with me.
She says, “Blogs give people who don’t have a TV station or a big platform the chance to say something. It’s a way for anyone to be heard, regardless of how many people are listening” (Ugly Betty, Season 4, Episode 13, 37:50).
This idea of being able to share your voice with the world, no matter how small the audience, inspired me to finally create my own.
Art is a way for me to express myself. I want my blog to be pure, authentic, and engaging. I don’t want to be an artist who hides behind their work; I want to be transparent. I want to be an artist who laughs, makes mistakes, and is unapologetically gay. When you see my artwork, I want you to think of the artist. To me, connecting with people is more important than the artwork itself. It’s about creating a real, human connection, and that’s what matters most.
Alongside this blog, I’ve also started creating uni diaries vlogs on my Instagram account (@carlkhan123). I record what I do throughout the day at university and voice over the video. This has been a huge step for me as it’s the first time I’m really including my voice and sharing who I am in this way. I’m being myself, and I’m excited to show you all who I truly am.
Recently, blogging was introduced as a professional practice at my university, which gave me the final push to take this step. I’m excited to explore this space, share my thoughts, and see where this journey takes me.
Whether you’re a fellow first-time blogger or someone who’s been doing this for years, I’d love to connect and learn from each other. Let’s see where this blogging adventure leads!
Carl Khan
